Sunday

Sorry I haven't been writing the last few days.
Yesterday I was trying to clean up my sewing room while watching the news on Hurricane Gustav. Looks like this one is going to be a big one. I pray New Orleans will get thru this.
While cleaning up and putting things away I found this pattern for a pincushion using old CD's
I thought what a great idea, my pins won't go thru the bottom and I won't get pinched. I use the big quilting pins.
I did my own version but this is the pattern I used. http://www.ivoryblushroses.blogspot.com/2008/08/sea-dreaming.html

Last night I finished this extra large big recycled plastic bag
I also walked again on the treadmill for 40 minutes 2.25 miles. Tim cleaned out the motor area and checked the fan this time. Will see how long it last now.

Wednesday

Yesterday was Dylan Austin's first day of pre-school. He will go 2 days a week and those are half a days. Timmi stopped by after picking him up. He was so cute. All excited about school

Last night Harley started his gymnastic classes. He is so full of energy. But he does love the balance beam.
Also I picked up a few videos at the local library to watch while I walk on the treadmill. Today is Amsterdam. Only got to walk 28 minutes for 2 miles the treadmill stopped on me again.

Monday

I finished my Christmas shopping bag.. I will probably use it as a gift bag. I used variegated red green and white thread. It is a nice size 17 inches long, 15 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Extra long handles so you can carry it on your shoulders. My sister Carole Sent the pattern to me. She found the free pattern I think at Joann's Fabric Store.

Sunday

We had the boys almost all day Saturday and then over night. We have so much fun with them but boy can they wear you out.
They both took really good naps Dylan slept 2.5 hours and Harley well he slept over 3 hours , I went and opened the door to his room so he could hear us more out in the living room. Finally after another 20 minutes he woke up.
We spent some time outside and of course playing inside with Thomas the Train. Dylan and Harley both like to swing. Inside we had 4 different track sets up. They go from one to the other and it helps from any fighting too.lol. Almost everything they have here is Thomas. even their tooth brushes. When they brush their teeth it plays Thomas theme song. It helps to make them brush longer. The of course it is movie time in Pappy's big bed. They really calm down and before you know it both are yawning and ready for night night. I have one of those video monitors and I watch them sleep in their bedroom. I don't get much sleep myself.

Saturday

Yesterday right after I wrote my blog in the morning Timmi called and asked "Do you have any plans for today, thought you may want to go shopping with us." I had to get my walking in but of course I would love to spend the day with you and the boys. I was able to get in my walk on the treadmill and another phone call they were on their way. We stopped at Babies R Us , Wal*mart and McDonald's. lol The boys were being so good . Timmi wanted to do some grocery shopping as well so I wanted the boys to come home with me let them take their naps here and she could do her shopping and put the groceries away. I enjoy having them they are so much fun. I get them today too and they get to spend the night. School will be starting and I won't be having them that much during the week any more.
We didn't have the big train set out.I got the trains from the sewing room and put it together in living room. You can see we have Thomas take alongs up on the hearth. That just stays there all the time. We don't put that away.

They both love Thomas; you would think they would get tired of it but they play with Thomas here mostly, "CARS" come in second and then Dinosaurs third. "Gramdma" is always buying a new engine. Diesel 10 is the favorite now.

Friday

Between the Doctors appointment, stopping at the store, rain and Timmi stopping by with the boys it was no sewing for me. But that is ok. Somedays you just need a break.
WOW did it ever rain here yesterday. And I am not in Florida with that tropical Storm Faye.
I do hope and pray that everyone in Florida will be ok. I did hear from a friend there that they did get 20 or so inches in 1 day. That is alot of rain.
This was our water spout in the front yesterday.
I walked for 40 minutes, 2 miles.

Kool Aid Bag

I have been wanting one of these bags for a long time I think they are the cutest. I thought I would make it but I just didn't have the nerve to try. I ordered this one from Laurie's Gifts at http://www.lauriesgifts.biz/ . This is the greatest bag. She does a wonderful job too. I am so pleased with it. I also have a little card holder and my license and credit card fit perfectly. The bag also have 2 pockets in side How cool or should say Kool is that. I love it. Again this is recycling these juice pouches. I am really getting into this recycle stuff. It is amazing what you can do. Take a look at her site she makes all kinds of things and the price is very reasonable. You pick what you want and she makes it. I received mine in less than a week, 5 days. If you do order from her just let her know you found her thru my blog.. Not that I get anything for it just so she will know. This bag is so great. I also put a link to her web site on my blog under favorite web sites down on the left hand side. "Laurie's Capri Sun Bags"

I walked today 1.8 miles for 35 minutes.

Monday

I didn't do much at all over the weekend. I rested my back. I had trouble sleeping Friday and Saturday nights.
I did sew alittle bit on Harley's quilt but sitting straight up cause the pain to come back.
I sat in my recliner and watched alot of the Olympics. I would get up and walk around the house then sit back in my recliner. I was able to get another recycled plastic bag finished.
Yesterday Timmi stopped over with the boys. it is always good to see her and the boys. They are growing up so fast. of course they played with Thomas the train. They had lunch here , took their nap and stayed til about 5.

TGIF

I can't believe it is Friday already. Where did the week go?
I didn't get any sewing in this week . But I did mange to finish tearing apart the bumper pad and iron flat the pieces. I can start working on it and I still have to finished the blue quilt. I hope next week will be a week of sewing. While watching the Olympics I managed to finished a recycled crocheted bag.
I walked today for 30 minutes, 1.6 miles.

Thursday

The boys came over yesterday for a visit with Timmi. We had a little time to rip out more of the bumper pad. Each little square is now being pulled apart. She wants a dark blue to go in between.
Tim put the finish on my drawer topper for when I quilt This is just too cool. The quilts will lat flat and not drag in the front as well on the side and back. There is plenty of room. Tim put these pieces of wood that fit down into the drawer, the top won't fall off while I am sewing. He is so smart.
I can tell you this walking/exercising is putting a big time dent in my sewing. Not to sure if I like this. Of course I am running late in the morning I have been staying up late. But I am going to continue and see if it is really going to make a difference. I keep saying to Tim "my legs hurt"he answers me saying that is good .. lol it is working. I walked today for 30 minures and 1.6 miles.

Baby Quilt to Bed Quilt

Timmi finally decided what she wanted for Harley's big boy bed. She really liked her nursery quilt she had for the crib. Now I am going to tear it all apart and make a twin size quilt for his bed .

After spending ALL day taking it apart this is what I have
After some measuring we( did I say WE I meant I) will cut it apart using the main peice as the center. Now do you really think Timmi will be cutting and sewing? I told Timmi we could use the squares from the bumper pad as borders and the underside which was red plaid for making it even in corners and such. The worse part is over the ripping out. We may even have enough to make a small wall hanging for his room too. The quilt was used as a wallhanging, it was never in his crib.

Saturday Tim and I had the boys over night. part if their bedtime routine is after bath we go into our big bed and watch alittle movie. That night I asked Harley if he wanted some lip balm on his lips.. LOL

This morning I walked another 1.5 miles in 30 minutes.. So far so good the treadmill kept going.
I have both boys today, not much will get done except playing with Thomas the train.. :)

then it was Dylan 's turn

Sewing and Walking or Walking and Sewing

Knowing me I have to walk then sew. I decided to start walking on the treadmill. Really I decided a few days ago but the treadmill quit on me. Tim took a look at it and got it running again, thanks honey. It is just too hot and humid here in Houston to walk outside. It is like opening your oven door and getting a blast. I think if I actually publish it on my blog that will give me more incentive to walk and keep it up. If I don't walk first thing in the morning I won't do it. So it is Walking and Sewing for me.

Now I do know I have to be consistent. Blogging should help me. I need to exercise, but then don't we all? Today I walked for 30 minutes it was 1.5 miles. I may go get a pedometer too. Of course I do other walking just around the house. I would like to see just how much. My treadmill is an older model . In fact when it didn't work I found the booklet on it and I had dated it in 1994. 14 years old, but it is good for me. I don't need all the new bells and whistles. I velcro ed the phone in the room to the treadmill in case the kids call. haha!! I also have the TV remote velcro to the other side. I think I am going to get some tapes/dvds of different places and watch those while I walk. Something tourist. I will have to see what Netflix has., or have to go to the video store. I would like to see Greece, Hungary, Romania and of course Germany, Israel, Australia and Spain (wink). That would make my walking a little more fun don't you think? Well that is my plan. Walk 5 days a week, the more the better. Now that I have published that here I HAVE TO DO IT or I will feel guilty.

I have 3 rows done on the Blue Quilt. It is coming out nice.

Love to Sew and Quilt

I really do enjoy sewing and making quilts.
I finished the first of 5 rows of this blue tone quilt. Almost have the second row done too. This is going pretty fast. Without any complications I should have the top sewn this weekend. Some don't understand the joy of cutting and sewing together making a pretty design. So far I do simple patterns but some day I will venture out and do some paper piecing, mariner stars, kaleidoscope or something like that. All the patterns I have made I cut strips and work from there. I see a crazy quilt in the future too. I love all the embellishments. I can dream can't I?
Also don't forget to leave a comment or email me if you want to get in my GIVEAWAY. I asked what would you like to see as a giveaway: pincushion, recycled bag or cloth grocery bag?

Blue Quilt

I cut the pieces I need for making my nephew's son a blue quilt.
I finished 1 square. I think a boy will like this pattern. It is called Cracker Barrel. Making these quilts for my family is allowing me to try out all these different patterns.
On another subject... I am coming close to my 100th blog. I was thinking of another "GIVEAWAY" as a celebration. What would you like to see? Another pincushion, one of my recycled crocheted bags, a cloth grocery bag. Hints would be great. Please leave comments.
